Some background on me and the watusi
Writing and editing come naturally to me but I love science as well. However, a spectacularly unsuccessful attempt at college chemistry and physics demonstrated that I was not cut out to be a premed, I majored in English and psychology (and annoyed my friends by actually enjoying the process of writing papers). After earning a master’s degree in journalism, I was a reporter and editor at several newspapers in Massachusetts and Connecticut starting with the Sudbury (Mass.) Town Crier in 1983. From 1993 to 2016, I worked in various capacities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. My first job there was editor of MIT Tech Talk, the faculty/staff newspaper published by the MIT News Office.
Currently I’m a full-time freelance editor and writer. I spend about half my time on the Lincoln Squirrel, an award-winning local news site I created in 2012 that I write and maintain on a daily basis. You can learn more about my background on my Résumé page and see some of my work on my Portfolio page.

So why the watusi?
Several reasons: the first syllable is the same as my last name, I like ungulates, and puns are fun (as in the phrase “Watusi is what you get”).
